Dance trends have always followed musical trends but only a few go on to capture
the imagination of generations and become dance phenomena
Jive first began in the Jazz era in New York and was called the Lindyhop in the 1920's
It spread across the USA in the Swing era and was known as the Jitterbug and
Boogie Woogie in the 1930's
Bill Haleys 'Rock Around the Clock' turned it into Rock'n'Roll in the 1950's and then Jive in the 1960's
'The Twist' in the swinging 80's gave way to solo disco dancing but on the
continent Europeans were intent on keeping hold of their partners so the dance changed to suit
more modern music and be more stylish for smaller dance floors - it became LeRoc
